Born in the bustling Lanes of the coastal town of Brighton, England, Riddle and Finns has become a household name in honest, quality and local seafood, oyster and Champagne dining. Taking inspiration from the high end liquor shops and oyster bars of New York City and Paris we pride ourselves in offering our diners an impressive culinary experience. Our dishes feature the freshest seasonal seafood, crustacea, meat and vegetables, each of which can be accompanied by wines and Champagnes from our extensive and carefully considered menu. So whether you are looking for a bowl of chowder and a glass of wine or 24 freshly shucked oysters and a vintage champagne we endeavour to cater to every occasion.
Brighton is now home to two Riddle and Finns restaurants, with our second restaurant housed in the famous arches of the promenade, a stone's throw from Brighton Beach. The Beach features an al fresco terrace and views of the seafront and the option to reserve a table or a private room for a special evening. In our original The Lanes oyster bar you will find yourself seated side by side and lit by candlelight, you can enjoy the ambience of this classic and vibrant setting whilst both sites feature the catch of the day, daily specials and the same impressive and inclusive menu.

Riddle and Finns was established 10 years ago in the heart of Brighton. Nestled into the bustling Lanes of the city the restaurant began offering fresh seafood dishes and a sought after selection of crustacea, Champagnes and daily specials. Within a short amount of time the fusion of oyster bar style dining and speciality dishes with honest and high quality ingredients and excellent service cemented us firmly on the food map.
Offering an unfussy standard of style and ambience allowed us to focus on our food and wine menus. Over the years we have developed many of our dishes and taken inspiration both locally and internationally to create a diverse and broad menu appealing to seafood enthusiasts (like ourselves) and those looking for something special for an evening.
By working with passionate and skilled chefs and carefully selected suppliers we can continue to offer the high standard of dishes that our customers have become accustomed to.
At Riddle and Finns we only work with trusted and knowledgeable suppliers, this way we can ensure the highest quality on our menus. Our main supplier of fresh fish are local Shoreham based BNFS, who provide us with day caught local fish and shellfish from their fleet of inshore fishing boats. Using BNFS guarantees provenance with all of their fish and they are the only UK fish market that own their own fish quotas making them a truly reliable source of the finest quality fish at Riddle and Finns.
We feature a range of smoked fish dishes on our menu which comes straight from the family run Springs Smoked Salmon which was established in the 1960's. The vast majority of our produce is from the local Sussex area, and we trust our suppliers to source responsibly and seasonally further afield.
Oysters are at the heart of our passion for seafood, we work closely with Rossmore Oysters who grow and sell some of the finest oysters from around Scotland, England and Jersey. Working with Rossmore ensures the oysters on our menu are always in season and of the finest quality.
Enjoy our oysters shucked to order in their rich liquor, with a slice of fresh lemon and Tabasco or with one of our hot or cold sauces. We also have a wide selection of caviar on offer - served with water biscuits or blinis or as the perfect finish to your oyster.
Our menu features a range of modern classics that have been internationally influenced, these dishes all feature locally sourced ingredients and a variety of fresh herbs and spices. With the luxury of having so much local crustacea on our doorstep we are able to offer a wealth of local and fresh fruits de mers, such as winkles and whelks, cockles and crabs from the local Sussex shores.
We have an extensive wine and Champagne list which features both boutique and household names from Dom Perignon to Court Garden Farm wine - grown and bottled in Sussex. To go with our seasonally changing food menu, our wine list is constantly developing to compliment our food and your dining experience.
Our original Brighton Lanes Oyster Bar is lit by candlelight and features tiled walls and high tables and stools. You will be seated side-by-side, allowing for a traditional and ambient dining experience. We have fresh daily specials and catch of the day on offer. Our open kitchen adds to the experience of The Lanes, allowing you to watch your food being prepared. Our marble topped tables act as the perfect setting for grazing on local seafood and enjoying a chilled glass of Champagne. Strictly no reservations.

The Beach restaurant can be found overlooking the picturesque promenade of Brighton. Housed in the famous seafront arches you can enjoy your meal on the al fresco terrace or with views of the beach from the dining room. The restaurant is spread across the first floor and the terrace, the decor is relaxed and elegant allowing for the perfect setting for special meal both day and night. At The Beach we take reservations and we have a private dining room available for functions and special events.
